Question
Hello, I have bred my Border Collie with another pure bred Border Collie...the breeder told me he was selling the dog's for $250.00 to $300.00 before we bred them, so had agreed to take the price of 1 pup as I understood that the stud fee is usually 1 pup or money's...since the dogs were born the breeder has found that he can get up to $700.00 a pup and had ajusted the price to that...now I have sold 3 of the pups (which I understand isn't my responsibility as the stud owner )but the breeder refuses to pay me the fee of one pup claiming I had agreed to $250.00, now i only agreed because he lead me to believe that's what he was asking for them...so my question is Is the normal stud fee usually as a norm, 1 pup or the money's from 1 pup ?Thank you for you interest, an answer would really help a lot of unnessesary argueing that has caused me great axiety

Answer
Hi Mark

Did you do anything in writing?  If you agreed to the price of one pup, it should be the price that the "breeder" is selling them for or the actual pup.

This "breeder" is typical of disreputable breeders.  As your signature is required on the papers of the pups, you can certainly refused to either sign the paperwork or contact your kennel club and file a complaint.

Other than that, unfortunately a Gentlemen's Agreement is only as good as the Gentlemen involved.

Good luck
