Question
I have a small female (13 lbs. at one year old).  My question is if I decide to breed her in the future, how large can the sire be to safely breed? I know the breed can vary greatly in size and wondered if there is a concern about size difference between dam and sire. thanks.

Answer
Hi Lanette

What you need to know is the weight and sizes of the parents and grandparents on either side too.

If the female comes from a line of large dogs, chances are she's going to throw larger size pups, and if the male has large dogs in his peds, same thing.

As long as you remember to keep the female on adult food, what you want to ensure is that the pups don't grow to big in the womb, or she won't be able to birth them.

Good luck
