Inexperienced Pair

QUESTION: I have a 4 year old female boxer. Her previous 3 heats I tried using a inexperienced male boxer that was way too excited, he always had too much pent up energy because his owners never let him work it out so he was always over excited when I brought my female. Needless to say, nothing happened. With this heat I finally found a different male, also inexperienced, very loved and exercised.  I took her to him on her 11th day.  She did not present to him, he tried, but she was not willing.  I took her last night on her 12th day, she presented to him but he mounted her, penetrated her once or twice but never stayed long enough. I have no other experienced male available.  My breeder has a male but he will eventually be bred to a pup from my litter if I ever have one so I can not use him. I am so worried that I am going to miss my chance again with this heat. My female is 4 years old so I am not going to keep trying much longer.  Do you have any suggestions for this heat?

ANSWER: Hi. I would try every day. Some girls aren't ready until later in her cycle, and that's fine. I would try until she will no longer stand for him. Let them run together and play, they'll get down to buisness and I'd say by the 14th day, they will most likely tie. Good luck.

QUESTION: Thank you Renee...This is what's happening now. They tied on her 13th day for 10 minutes. I took her back last night on her 14th, she presented to him but when ever he tried to mount, she would turn around and try to bite him.  To me it seemed like her back was sore from the night before. I was going to try again tonight, her 15th day but if she is acting the same after approximately 10-15 minutes I am going to take her home.  She mostly like is not pregnant after one 10 minute tie, right?

Hi. No, she can most definitely BE pregnant from one tie. Most breeders like two ties, but it's very possible for it to take with one. If she stood for him, and he did his buisness eagerly, then I'd say you got it just in time. Good luck, and let me know how it goes.
