Getting my Miniature Schnauzers to mate

I have two Miniature Schnauzers. Gypsy is 3-1/2 years old. Charlie is 3 years old. I made a huge mistake. They did try to mate about a year ago. But Gypsy was crying, as if in pain, and I fear that I am the cause of Charlie's less than interest, now. Fearing that Gypsy was being harmed; I stupidly got them in the shower in order to separate them. I know; how stupid can I be? And now; whenever Gypsy is in heat and prancing it in his face, he ignores her. He does sniff her. And when my other dog; Rosie; a Teacup Poodle/Maltese mix is around Gypsy; Gypsy tries to get her to have sex. And Charlie; seeing this interest, will growl; run over to them and "scold" Gypsy. And then he will walk away. I really do want them to mate. And yes; even if she is crying, if that is what it entails; then I will grit my teeth and turn my back. But please let me know how to get Charlie interested. I have gone so far as to put him over her, but he looks at me like I am crazy. She has twice, gone through false pregnancy. I thought she was pregnant and even got a whelping area ready for her.I really feel bad for her as she desperately tries to get him interested. Please let me know what to do to help her in this situation. Thank you so much, in advance for whatever information or advice that you can give me.

Just to understand, they have never tied other than the one time?  

What you have to do is get him excited. Manually stimulate him -- but not how that sounds.  Sit on the ground and hold her on your lap. Encourage the male by lot of praise, petting, throwing a  ball, anything to get him wound up. When he starts to get excited, steer him in the right area and hold him in place until a tie occurs.

You can always have someone else do the mating with you no where near them when it happens.  He could be "shutting down" when you are around. The alternative is to do A.I.
