my medium size dog has given birth to 11 puppies 1 of which passed away before birth the vet only told us there would be 5 so it was a bit of a surprise lol the rest are doing great its been over 12 hours now since she had them and i wanted to know if it was normal that she still be trying to nest and shes still panting alot thank you for taking the time to look at this .

Did the vet give her a shot of oxytocin?  I would recommend that they do.  With a litter that size, there is a chance that a placenta or afterbirth is still inside.

I would also recommend rotating the pups on the dam.  5 and 5 would work best.  This gives everyone a chance to feed and be cleaned and examined by their dam.
