Why wouldnt a stud be interested in a bitch in heat...

Question
Hi, I was wondering if you could shed some light for me as to why a stud who has mated with a bitch won't mount or have anything to do with her even though she is clearly in heat and wanting him to mate with her?  His health is fine and he is happy and eating otherwise.  Could it be behavioural because of being corrected for mounting pillows, etc?  Any insight would be appreciated so I could pass it on to my friend.  Thank you!

Answer
It could be because of correction in the past. It could also be that she isn't ovulating yet and he knows it. sometimes dogs really are aware of that with a female, and they just won't go there until they know it's time. All of her flirting may in the end be all talk and no action and if he knows that, he's not going to waste his time. Some dogs will try to breed a female any and all the time. Some are just a tad smarter. If it's after her thirteenth day and he is still uninterested I'd have him vet checked just to be sure he's ok. If he is,. and he still refuses to breed I'd say over correcting his behavior has done it and he will take LOTS of encouragement to ever breed again,
Good luck
