Maltese accidently got bred

Question

Serena our female
We did not want to breed are female Maltese to our male Maltese as she has had 3 litters in a row.  The last litter was an accidental breeding and she just was not able to push out the puppies without vet intervention.  This morning it happened again. My daughter accidently put are little female down while the male was loose in the house. I walk in and they are latched.  We both are devastated as we don't want to loose are female.  I was wondering if there is some kind of exercises or supplementation that I can give or do for her to strengthen and heal her inside so she can get thru this without having to have a c-section or other adverse effect?

Answer
Hi Tricia

If only one breeding occurred, take her to the vet for a shot of oxytocin immediately. It acts like a morning after pill.

With this being her 4th litter in a row and if her last whelping required assistance, it doesn't look good for this little female. What her body needs is at least a year of complete rest, quality food and extra vitamins.

Unfortunately, there is no magic formula. And as harsh as it may sound, over breeding, puppy milling and poor choices is the kiss of death for a lot of dogs. The physical health of this little female should be your top priority, you may want to talk to your vet about having her spayed.

Good luck with whatever decision you choose.
