Pregnancy, of a bitch

Question
Hi It's Me again! I'm Mitzie's mom!

It is very  likey she is pregnan,t she was breed the first time  once on the 8th, for a  ejaculation worth then he stuck , locked, barely 10 minutes, and forze when he ejaculated and then froze on th spot, we were doubltful anything happened because she came home with the starting of a four day heavy ish period, then she went into the clear liquid yellowy  show. so we re breed her on the 14th again, and this time, she was receptive for one good solid breed of well over 20 minutes.
Now it has only been one week since the second breeding and she is alreay odd,out of sorts and thicker in the middle, my husband and l both seperately noticed she seems bloated in her abdomin.....
I'm thinking thats impossible for her to only be one week into this  pregnancy and  seeming to be thicker, we think its possible that in that first round she really did ovulate and got pregnant afer all, and that would make her two weeks along instead of one.
If she is pregnant from the fisrt flash intercourse instead of the real deal a week later, is it possible that she could be carrying two differnt gestations?
It doesn't make sence shes thicker already on one week.
Yet the first one was a barely happened deal, where as the second one she acted like she was in heat and accepted him willingly, and it lasted for quite a while....
Are we in trouble!
Last question, is it harmful, to pick her up by the tummy like we always have, she's alittle pom chi, only weighs 8 lbs. But if she has a tummy  full of puppies is this a bad thing?
Thanks for your time!
Mitzies mom!

Answer
Hi Mitzies Mom (and Mitzie)

She can't have two gestation dates, it's not possible.  Her eggs are released on a specific day and that's when they get fertilized.

Keep measuring both her waist AND her chest.  Both should expand to accommodate pups. If just her belly is swelling, it could mean a false pregancy.  Make a note to have her x-rayed on her 50th day.  That way you can know what to expect number wise.

You can still pick her up -- just don't drop her.   Remember to make sure she doesn't gain too much weight and NO PUPPY FOOD until after she whelps.  Puppy food is high fat and protein it makes the pups (and dogs) grow bigger and heavier -- which in turn can cause problem during whelp.   Just same old kibble she's always had, maybe just a lot more love and a whelping box.

Good luck.
