Large litter can my dog take care of them?

Question
Hi,
My dog just had her first litter this morning.  She had 10 puppies, will she be able to take care of this many or will we need to supplement with bottle feeding?

She did a great job having them and took care of each puppy as it came out, the birth went well no complications.

She is a boxer lab cross so she is fairly large if that makes a difference.

Answer
Hi. As long as she has plenty of milk, she should be able to. Make sure she has access to food and water at all times. You may want to rotate the pups, 5 nursing, 5 in a warming box. When the first 5 are done, then switch them out. If you don't already have them, I would go ahead and buy a few bottles and puppy formula just in case. If the pups aren't gaining weight, or never seem full, then I would bottle feed. Let mom try first, then step in if you need to. Good luck!
