Male Chihuahuas and their balbus glandis

I have a one year old Male Chihuahua and am planning to use him as a stud in the future.  However I noticed that his bulbus glandis is very visible most of the time and it is very hard.  Is this supposed to be that way?  Or could something be wrong?  He was sick about three months ago and the vet almost killed him, I want to make sure this isn't something that I should be concerned about.

Hi. This is normal. When the dog reaches sexual maturity, this gland will enlarge and become hard, as you say. This is what helps hold the male dog inside of the female during a tie. It's perfectly normal, so you shouldn't worry. If it becomes enlarged and red/hot to the touch then get him to the vet.
