Question
i have a 2 year old pitbull in labor, she has had one puppy in 2 hours, is it possible for her to only have one puppy?
or is there more?, and how long should i wait for more puppys before i get concerned?

Answer
Hi David

Singleton's can happen however, 2 hours isn't that long.

I would recommend getting her up and taking her for a short walk (just around the yard or to go to the bathroom).  This can help stimulate the uterus and move any remaining pups from the horn to the birthing canal.

You can also give her a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  It helps with the contractions, keeps her hydrated and gives her a boost of calcium. All good for the pups and the dam.

Watch for discharge, you want it to be a nice red. Black/green is a sign of distress.

Good luck.
