Breeding my Rotties

Question
Hi I have a question about breeding my Rottie's.  They are both in great health had all checks done with vet and now my female is in heat. It has been 8 days since she began spotting. We put her with the male today, he tries to mount but she sits down. This will be their first mate and litter. Vet said around days 8-10 it would be best to breed her, she is now spotting very light pink. Am I jumping the gun by trying to mate her today on day 8? Should I wait a few more days or try muzzling her. She's 100lbs 4yrs old and he is 120lbs 2yrs old. I don't want to miss out and have to wait another cycle. I know there are people who discourage breeding but we have a big home and yard, all puppies will have a home with our family members and in the event they can't keep them we will gladly keep them all!! If there is any information that you have that can help I would really appreciate it!
Thanks!!

Answer
Hi Carla

It's important to start introducing them together. Even if they live together.  Bringing them to short periods starting now is key.  Depending on when she ovulates, she may start standing for your male around day 12.

Days 12 to 15 are typically the optimum breeding days but some females ovulate early and some later.  If your female won't stand you made need to assist her but don't give up just yet, we've had females take at day 21.

Good luck
