pros and cons of breeding indoor maltese

Question
I am wanting to get a female for my male maltese. We also have a 6 yr old net. male. I have 2 children of the ages of 9 & 10, concrete floor inside the house (child and dog proof). But before I get a female I want to make sure this is a good decision for the entire family. I have bred many other types of dogs, but they were all outside pets. This female is not to make money; just a new member of our family. I grew up around all types of animals; learning how to take care of them. I would love for my children to know how to take care of animals, how to help them, and most of all how to respect them. Any information will be appreciated!

Answer
It's always a mistake to breed so that the kids can experience "life".  In my experience (and I have children of my own), when it comes to feeding, cleaning, walking, the chore falls mainly on the parent.

You want to consider if you are going to enhance the bred and if you will be able to find good homes for all the pups you may produce.  Take in consideration the extra cost to your family, if there are complications and a c-section is required, extra vet bills, advertising, etc. etc. And finally the extra time that you will have to devote to "special needs" (pregnant) female and the care of puppies.

It's a choice the entire family should make.

Good luck!
