Question
my dog is a 4 1/2 year old staffordshire bull terrier, shes in exellent health, shes on her 65th day of pregnancy, when we woke this morning at 6.30 i noticed she was trying to hide under the kids beds, her tempurture is 36.6,and shes grunting alot,my question is how long will this last for before she gives birth?,and what will happen after this?

Answer
Hi Emma

She needs a whelping box or a area where she can safely whelp her litter.

Each delivery is different.  She may pop them out quickly or have a long laborious delivery.  It can happen in a blink of an eye or go on for a few hours.  Your best bet is to keep her in an area where you can monitor her.

After the pup is expelled she may reject it so you will need to clean it.  Pick it up, pull the sack off and rub it vigorously.  If she's had a litter before she'll know what to do and you can sit back and enjoy the wonder of Nature.

Good luck
