Question

My Staffy
My 13 month old Staffy Terrier just gave birth 3days ago to 14 pups 2 still born 12 lived but she has been bleeding every since, I am very concerned and she isn't really feeding well, what can I do and is this normal considering the size of the litter? Please
help me to understand my situation as I have not slept in 3 days due to concerns for her!

Answer
Hi Alvin

14 is an extra large litter so it's to be expected that she would be bleeding for a few weeks after.  Now when I say bleeding, I'm referring to spotting, typically when she stands or urinates. Although occasionally while she's just laying in her pen. Her uterus has to shrink back to size after accommodating that large of litter.

Get her on a high quality puppy food including raw organ meats (liver, heart, kidney) I would supplement with a fish oil and vitamins. Let her eat twice or three times a day, smaller amounts.  Too much food and you will have to content with the runs.

What you need is a warming box.  A small clear Rubbermaid container works perfect.  Line it with a heating pad (set to the lowest setting) and old towels.  You need to rotate the pups for an hour on and a hour off, doing 6 and 6.  She can be become overwhelmed and it will be easier for her to feed and clean half the litter at a time.

Good luck
