Question
How often do slip ties happen during breeding, what is the cause, and what are the chances of conception if there was never an actual tie or lock?

Thanks for any information you can give me.  Dottie

Answer
Hi Dottie. It's a lot more common than you think. There are many different causes. Sometimes, something may be wrong with the male's penis not allowing for the tie to take place. The female may have strictures inside of her vagina, not allowing penetration to happen. Some breeds are prone to outside ties. It may also be because of the way the dogs are made. A dog can become pregnant without a tie. The best thing that you can do is to check the male's penis to make sure that everything is working as it should, then check the female. You can hold them together after the male ejaculates.
