re: Dog mating

Hello,I have a Labrador Dog. He has been at stud once and that bitch is expecting easter puppies. This weekend he is covering my Fathers Lab bitch who is on day 12 of her cycle. It takes quite alot to get him worked up enough to mount her and now she is standing but he cant get locked in no matter how many times he trys.  What could be the reasons?  Thanks confused from GB.

Hi Eve. There could be a few different reasons why he's not tieing. The female may not be in the right part of her cycle to be bred (some girls ovulate later), and it's causing him to not do the job fully yet. You may want to try again in a day or two. Or, the female may have something wrong with her vagina causing the male to have problems fully penetrating her. I'd try again in a day or so, and if they're still having problems I'd take the female in for a check up. Good luck!
