Breeding Difficulty

I have been trying to breed my labs over the weekend and my stud keeps trying but appears not to be able to penetrate or tie.  Any suggestions?

ANSWER: Hi. First of all, what day of the cycle is your girl on? Does your male have any problems extending his penis all the way out of the sheath? You may also want to have your girl's vagina checked for strictures, this will cause the male dog to not be able to penetrate fully as well.

QUESTION: Today is her 12th day, I noticed that his penis does not extend a great deal, not like I have seen in other dogs, is this a defect or is there something I can do to fix it.  I also noticed on 2 occassions last night that she yelped or snapped could that mean that he penetrated a little?

I would suggest taking your boy to the vet and have his penis checked out. This may be your problem, he may not be able to fully penetrate her because of it. If your girl has never been bred before, then she may have yelped or snapped if he was able to penetrate at all. Some girls do this during their first time. It could also mean that she's not standing for him anymore, this is why I suggest taking them both in for a quick check up just to make sure that both are equiped to breed naturally.
