3yr old bulldog

Question
Hi,
I bought a 3yr old bulldog about 2weeks ago and she had had puppy's 7weeks previous to me getting her all her puppy's had gone to their new homes apart from 2 that the breeder was keeping, they had still been suckling occasionally and she was all scratched and sore. we have sorted her sore teats but she is still losing dark red slimey gunk. her puppy's will be 9weeks old today. my vet says it should have lightened off and gave her a week of  antibiotics and said if it doesn't lighten off in a couple of weeks she wants to spay her. we bought her for breeding because she had already had a litter and we saw she was a very good mum. i know i need to do a lot more research and find a mentor before we do breed but i just love the breed so much. we take her and my younger bulldog for walks twice a day to try and clear it out but she is still losing a little. sorry about the life story i just didn't want to leave anything out incase it was relevant to the possible problem. should she still be losing after 9 weeks?
Many thanks
Nichola

Answer
Breeders like this really burn my butt. That dog should never have been let go until she was dried up and back in condition.

The dark red gunk is perfectly normal although there shouldn't be a lot of it. Antibiotics are good but spaying, at this point, isn't something I would consider.

The first thing I would do is have her checked for worms and act accordingly. Then, put her on a really good quality diet and give her at least a year off before you consider breeding her again.

She probably doesn't need to go for walks twice a day right now. Let her get her strength back and gain some weight.  Then you an get her back into condition with daily walks. A good vitamin wouldn't hurt either.
