Changing a new puppys food

Question
I will be picking up my bully baby soon, he will be 8 weeks old at that time.  And, The breeder has informed me that they are feeding Diamond puppy.  As a result, I would like to start him on a puppy food that more wholesome and natural food such as Solid Gold Wolf Cub and Solid Gold Seameal as soon as possible.  Is this ok?  And, should I add cottage cheese or yogurt?  If so, what is the best way to transition him to the new food?  Also, I am planning to crate train(bare). I will be purchasing a crate that will accommodate him as a adult and use the divider.  Just wondering if you could offer any other suggestions regarding crate training.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
I would let him settle in for a week before you go switching his food. Diamond is really bottle of the barrel and changing to a healthier diet is a great idea. Just do it gradually over about a week's time by adding a little Solid Gold and removing a little Diamond until you're feeding all Solid Gold. Actually, there shouldn't be any need to give him yogurt or cottage cheese.

If you notice any diarrhea, just back off a little for a day and then continue with the plan. If Diamond is the best this breeder can do, I suggest having a vet check done right away, especially for parasites. Makes you wonder where corners were cut elsewhere.

If you email me directly I'll be happy to send you some training information.  Good luck.
