Bulldog smells like fish

Sometimes my bulldog smells like rotten fish.  I am not sure if this is when he gets excited or just every so often.  Is this an infection.  My vet seems to think he may need his anal expressed but I have read that it could be a urinary infection?  Please help

It could be any or all of the issues you  mentioned. The only way you're going to know for sure is to have your vet do some diagnostics.  A white cell count blood test is a good thing to indicate any infection. If the anal glands were the problem, the dog would be irritated and fidgety, sitting and spinning in circles trying to scratch an itch he can't reach.
