Question

Bentley
We noticed that Bentley our 5 month old male bulldog had a slight limp in his rear right leg last Thursday, the limp got worse and Friday morning I took him to the vet. The vet informed us that he had a stage three dislocated right knee and stage one left knee and that we'd need to get it operated on. My question is how risky is it to anesthetize a bulldog especially if they are under 12 months old and have you any experience with this problem? We are extremely stressed about what to do and why this has happened......we feed Bentley a mixed diet of chicken breast, rice and veges and either mince, rice and veges then dry food during the day. The vet put him on niralone 5mg for a skin allergy when I took him in on friday.We hope you can help, thank you.

Answer
bulldog with luxating patella; alternatives to surgery for patella problems;
HOW is Bentley?

Hi Sean and Bentley.  Looks like a luxating patella.  ( the stage 3 or level 3 needs surgery often....Levels 1 and 2 will repair themselves)
Sorry, You can try some supplements for the level 1 knee.
Please call around for a vet that operates on the bulldog breed.
YOU don't want someone that doesn't have bullie experience.

Wish that I could be of more help.....

Here is my post on luxating patella ( this explains the options)
