Frenchie doesnt get potty training

Question
I have had my "Pica" (French Bull Dog) for about a year now. She was with my mother in Ukraine the first 5 months of her life and , my mother is an awful pet owner and never truly potty trained her. When I brought Pica to NYC I had initial problems in potty training, which have not been truly resolved in the past year. I also have a boxer - who is fully trained - and with whome she spend the better part of the day. Now we have bred her through AI and I am wondering if the pregnancy will make the "accidents worse". The thing is that when we go to our counrty house and she is out of the house 4-5 times a day - there are no accidents in the house -EVER. But when we are in the city both me and my fiance` work from 8am-8pm and walk both dogs only in the morning and night - sometimes we get someone to come in the afternoon - but our neighborhood doesnt really have dog walkers. I have tried and tried to thikn of a feeding schedule to help her control herself - but it seems the second we leave she poops or pees.

On a second note....
If I did AI on day 10 and 12 with an active stud ... what are the chances it will take?

And... (sorry for all these questions)
If she is pregnant - I know that sections are quite common with Frenchies - but all the Vets and breeders tell me she is unussually tall and long and should not have an issues - especially considering the stud was smaller than her. She was whelped naturally by her mother. What are the chances that she should whelp naturally and how long should I wait to section her .

(FYI... I was a Vet Tech for 6 years and am currently in Midwifery School , having helped 150-ish human mommie give birth)

I appreciate your proffesional oppinions....

Answer
Regina,

Having your frenchie bred should not affect the number of accidents she has.  I think the biggest problem is that she has learned that when you are in your city house, this is the way it goes.  That is a long time to  hold it, and she just figures this is what she is suppose to do.

Toward the end of her pregnancy, should most likely will have to go more often, but not at the beginning.  Maybe you could train her to go on puppy pads.

10 and 12 days are the standard for breeding.  But that does not guarantee it will take.  All dogs are different.  We have our dogs progesterone tested to be sure.  But without that testing, your breeding was done on the right days.

The c-section issue can be a hard decision, especially when you have the midwifery background you have.  I know all about it because I have strong belief that doctors to way to many c-section.  I had 5 c-sections and then had 2 homebirths.

But, we are taking about dogs and not people.  We have had several bulldogs start labor and get a puppy stuck or not be able to finish, and have to go for an emergency c-section.  Because of this, we try to schedule all our births for c-section.

It is impossible to tell how your dog will do until she has her puppies.  Unless you can be sure you will be there when whelps, I would schedule the c-section.

Hope that helps!
