Question
Hi,
We recently bought a 6 wk old puppy 2 weeks ago.  He is now 7 1/2 weeks old.  The first week he would get up 4 to 5 times during the night to go to the bathroom, but there would still be poop in his cage.  Now he doesn't wake us up at all during the night.  We feed him 3 times a day (7am, Noonish, & 5:30/6pm)  Ever since we got him he has not stopped pooping.  He even goes in his sleep.  I emailed the lady we bought him from to get advice and she suggested to put an animal in there bc he might be lonely.  So, I did.    I have to change his bedding at least 4 times a day and he even manages to get it all over the wire cage.  Is this normal?  What can I do to stop this bc he doesn't pee in his cage.

Answer
The first thing I would do is get a fecal exam done to see if he has worms. If that proves negative, it may be some type of bacteria causing the problem.

Aside from this, he's just a baby. Cut him some slack for another month or two. What is going on isn't normal and he just needs medical attention.

The feeding schedule is perfect. It could be his food too. Try Eukanuba puppy food. It's great. Get a clean bill of health first. I have to admit. I've never heard of a stuffed animal as a cure for pooping!
