puppy eating his poop

Hi, I just purchased a 12 week old French Bulldog pup from a breeder, and I love him, however he has the most disgusting habit of eating his own poop. I took him to the vet, who suggested putting a tablespoon of pumpkin filling in his food, but it is not working. He voids and immediately turns around and eats it. If he poops on the puppy pad he eats it. It grosses me out, and if it continues it will be a deal breaker. I cannot have a dog that eats his own poop. I switched his food from Royal Canine to Nutro, tried the pumpkin, I am out of ideas, and totally grossed out.  HELP!

I hate to say this but Frenchies are disgusting little creatures and notoriously difficult to house train. You can try putting Adolph's meat tenderizer on the poop. That's the only thing I've known to help with this problem. Unless you can pick it up quick enough so he can't get to it, I'm afraid this is going to end up being a habit you can't break. I wish I could offer you more. Does your breeder offer any insight into this?

In my opinion, puppies get into this habit because they aren't kept clean before the owner gets them.
