Question
Hi again

I really appreciate your staight answers.
I have a question again about him he has goo draining from his eye is there something I could use for eye drops from the drug store to clear this up?
His mask seems to be red too, is that an allery, my husband and I noticed it today, his folds are fine and I have it down to a fine art, he lets me hose his butt off no resistance in the laudry room.  He prefers to be clean too.
As for taking him back to the breeder it was for a one year guarentee and his problems really started 1 week after that guarentee expired.  As for giving him up we can't if you have a dog any type and you are a dog lover no way could you give him to anyone.  No matter the work he is I would not trust anyone to invest the time we do to take care of him.
Can I use calamine lotion on his head and polysporine drops in his eye or would these things produce more problems?

You mean to say their tails are that short when they are born.  It resembles a cinimon bun.  Do other english bull dogs not have the stool problem?
We originally did not buy this dog our daughter did for $2500.00 dollars he has a tattoo and papers and is regisitered.  My daughter once said he did not have his tail docked but we did not believe her.  We thought no dog could have a tail that is curled up and so close to his butt.
What is cherry eye?  (I will look it up on the internet.) One of his eyes does look kind of out of the socket and like an allergy or something sometimes worse on other days than others.
My daughter had him at her place for a couple of weeks a while ago and noticed blood spots on the floor she took him to the vet which she then told my daughter he had this rare problem and needed to have his urinary tract operated on and to be neautered.  This she charged my daughter $100.00.  When we got him back (we needed a break he chewed my prescription glasses and I was at the end of my ropes.  We took him for her because she and her husband did not want him because he was chewing up their brand new house.  He was a puppy then and I have solved his problem of chewing by buying him those rawhide bones, he loves them although once and a while he may chew on something he shouldn't but that is rare now he is over a year old and is a very loving dog.  We now own him we paid our daughter back the $2,500.00.
I agree with you there is something wrong with this vet the last time I took him to the vet she charged me $100.00 gave him another so called physical and different meds for his yeast infection.  I now clean his ears at least every other day and wash is folds.  His rear end we have to wipe or hose off due to the mushy stools.  I then put medicated powder on a cloth and puff it on his bottom.  Too much rubbing makes his butt raw and bleed sometimes.
I am not making any of this up and I will try to take him to another vet out of town.  The last time I took him to this vet I did try to take him to another vet in town and the other vet said take him to the vet you usually go see, she has his records.  I do think she is taking advantage of us.....I am very surprised by your answer and thank-you for your advice.

Question -
My english bull dog has a pimple near his penis, what can I put on it to clear it up?
The vet said about 6 months ago he may have a tract infection and need to be neautered plus have his urinary tract operated on she said a specialist would have to do the operation and it would range in the price of $2000.00 plus his tear ducts need to be operated on because they are folded in and not draining properally that would be an additional 2 to 3 hundred dollars.  No guarentees that his urinary tract would help and it may shorten his life anyways.  He is not bleeding from his penis or showing any signs of discomfort since she diagnosed this problem 6 months ago.  Have you ever heard of this before she mentioned it was a hereditary problem.  He seems fine, what do you suggest?  Everytime we take him to the vet she gives him a physical even if we come in with one problem is this necessary?  Very costly for us.  I clean his ears daily or every 3 days is this good to do or will it irritate him?  Also any suggestions on his hygenie around his docked tail stool is constantly clinging to it since it is so shortly docked.  We have to wipe it down everytime he goes like looking after a 1 year old.  Anyone getting an english bull dog I suggest do not let them dock the tail.  Very messy.  He also gets open sores in his folds what do you suggest for keeping it clean, specific soap?  We also have to give him an antibiotic which are quite costly (novo 500) could you suggest something that is in the store which could be given.  We told her it was not agreeing with him and she gave me something else for 3 weeks / 2days / a week but had to go back to giving him the other stuff because his sores on his fold were coming back they bleed if not washed constantly and given this anti biotic.  He is a very good boy and very loving we just want to keep him happy and healthy.  Any suggestions from you would be extremely appreciated.
Thank-you look forward to your response....Bev

OK, let's just wait a minute here. First of all, a urinary tract infection is easily resolved with anitbiotics, not surgery. If you're not seeing blood in his urine, he's not going all the time and he's not straining to go, he's fine. If you see any of these symptoms, then you need a consultation, not necessarily with a urologist.

Now, the tear ducts....if his eyes aren't bothering him, and he doesn't have a cherry eye, then he's fine.

Why would anyone dock the tail of an English Bulldog? No one does this routinely that I'm aware of.

The folds can be treated with Desitin ointment, a baby product. Too much cleaning with soap will only irritate the situation. Again, antibiotics aren't necessary unless there is a secondary infection.

Last but not least, your vet is taking you to the bank. Find a new one and do it soon before you end up doing something to this dog you will regret. At the very least, take your dog to another vet out of the area for a second opinion on all this. Vet's like this should lose their license to practice in my opinion.

Now that I have more information, your dog has what's referred to as a "tight tail". These are notorious for being problematic, often resulting in amputation. They are miserable to keep clean and once an infection begins, it's a never ending battle.

I honestly believe the poop issue is partly due to diet and partly due to the dog being on medication all the time.

If you had crate trained the dog as a young puppy, his chewing behavior wouldn't have been an issue. It's not too late.

I don't suppose taking him back to the breeder is an option? I'm hoping your daughter got a written health guarantee, maybe?

Answer
I don't think calamine is going to do any good at all and I wouldn't put anything in his eyes, other than visine unless it is ok'd by a vet.

The more you tell me about this dog, the more I'm convinced he has an allergy to something in his environment.  What has changed that might have set this in motion? New carpet? New lawn fertilizer? Different floor or carpet cleaner?  A change in food or treats?  Are you feeding him anything with peanut in it or red dye?  These are just a few of the possibilities that come to mind.
