Is a bulldog even a good choice?

Question
Hi,

I am looking into dogs and would like to know more about bulldogs. I am interested in a good-sized dog, with a calm disposition, good with a family (I have a 3 year old daughter), that requires moderate excersize.  The Brittish bulldog seems to have so many health problems. what about the Olde English Bulldogge?  any recommendations?

thanks,

Jason

Answer
I think it's wise to consider the Olde English. However, there is not a lot of consistency in the breed yet because it is fairly new and breeders are developing their own lines. You need to find a breeder who isn't into weight pulling or competitions because those dogs are high energy. The ones that are more into the the type of disposition you're interested in are the ones who have more of the Bulldog influence in their lines.  Just ask and make sure you get all your questions answered to your satisfaction.  References are always good.
