Question
My question is that my 10 week old English Bulldog pup growled and snapped at my daughter when she hugged him. Before that he has seem to be okay with her, just the occasional chewing on hands when playing, but no aggression. Is this something I need to be concerned abou t and is normal or do you think this can turn into a larger problem. I have had an aggressive dog before, and I do not want to go through that again.

Answer
The only reference puppies have is the time spent with their siblings. They communicate by growling, snapping and chewing on each other. You didn't mention how old your daughter is. If she' very young, it's not a great idea for her to be hugging the puppy simply because she may be hurting him without you even knowing it.

Secondarily, puppies need their own space. As cute as they are, they get tired quickly and just don't want to be hugged or carried around or poked or anything else. They'd prefer just to nap.

I do not see this as aggressive behavior in any way. Give your daughter some supervision around the puppy and your puppy some space and you'll be fine.
