redness of around eyes

Question
We have a one year rescue EB. We have only had her approx. 4 months, within a month of bringing her home we had her fixed, which took 3 additional trips to the vet due to infection, inner stitches not healing, ect, ect. Now suddenly the outside corners of her eyes are red. The redness seems to be spreading around both her eyes. This is our second EBD, Lola. The first EBD, Gertie, licks Lola's face all the time. Could this be causing the problem? Thanks so much for your help!

Answer
Julie,

Sorry to hear you have had so many problems with your pup!!!

Yes, I think that could be the problem.  Your bulldog may have a low immune system.  That could be why she has infection from her surgery.

Try to keep Gertie from licking Lola's face and get some antibiotic eye ointment.  It is not expensive.  You can use the human kind but it may be cheaper from your vet.

You might want to also try some things to boost Lola's immune system.

Do this by, making sure she is up-to-date on deworming.  Then make sure you are feeding a good quality feed.  Finally, you can add some plain (unsweetened) yogurt to her food.  Give her a couple tablespoons twice a day.  You can mix it with her food.

Hope this helps,
