Question

Lucy
We just got a puppy English Bull Dog on Sat. She will be 4 months old on the nth of July. I have 2 questions
1. We just lost our Boxer 2 weeks ago. He was 15 yrs old and we have a Dashuand and a Boxer mix they both are around 7 yrs old.Anyway the Puppy Lucy wants to play but when she goes near the Dashound a female also to play the Dashound will show her teeth.
2.We are thinking about possabley breeding Lucy  ( English Bulldog ) Is it hard to takecare  of the mother & puppy's and i heard sometimes the mother needs to have a C - section. If we don't breed her should we fix her in 2 months from now or let her go thru one minstrel cycle?

Answer
Hello Stuart and Lucy the bulldog... Wonderful news about you getting a new gal.
So sorry for the loss of your Elderly Boxer boy!

As for Lucy - Keep her safe - she needs to be monitored by a Human when she is with the other dogs. She has not learned how to be part of a pack yet.... They will teach her but you must monitor the process, so your new pup stays safe.

I would give her time with the other dogs and give them Plenty of time Outs from her.
A pup is full of energy that the older dogs many not appreciate.
Do you know what I mean???  They may feel she is a big pain!

As far as breeding a bulldog, yes, many times they do need C-Sections that will cost 1000.00 or more.  If you want to breed her you need to talk with some breeders and get more info.
It is HARD work...

Also, you will need to talk to your vet about this.

As far as Spay - Yes - I would wait until she is at least 7 months and then spay.  Don't do it at 4 or 5 months - Too many things can go wrong.... I am asked this often and 7 to 8 months is a good time ...

BEST wishes
