English Bulldog Breeding

Question
I am thinking about breeding English Bulldogs.  However, I want to do as much research as I possibly can before doing so.  I am a stay at home mom of 3 and the oldest two will be in school full time before the dog is bred, which means I will have lots of time to spend on this.  I don't have a female at this time, however I have been looking for a puppy.  But I am very picky on what I want...not so much looks, but if the mom is onsite, health guarantees, ect.  I don't want to go into this blindly, and I'm not doing it to make a quick buck as obviously this would be the wrong breed to do that.  I know that these dogs can have a lot of health problems, which is anothe reason why I'm taking my time.  Any info you can provide, such as how to gain experience or any books to read would be greatly appreciated.  Also, any info to keep in mind while picking otu a puppy...to breed or just as our family companion, would be wonderful.

Answer
Breeding Bulldogs is not to be taken lightly. It requires a great deal of knowledge and experience. All deliveries are via c-section and all breedings are done using artificial insemination. Puppies die, mom's die and it wears on you.

Go to www.thebca.org and find a breeder in your area. See if you can find someone who will mentor you. You should be absolutely positive you have time to devote to this and I don't mean being home all day.  I mean being available to hand feed orphan puppies every 2 hours around the clock for weeks.

If you consider purchasing a puppy, get a health guarantee of at least one year, in writing. Ask for a veterinarian's reference as well. If you don't get one, go elsewhere.
