Question
Hello my English Bulldog is a four months old puppy, Dolce, and we are having major problem with him in walking him outside. For the first couple of weeks or so he was great going out for 30/45 minutes walks. Then for no specific reason he began freezing, meaning that we would put him out on the street and he would not move even if we drag him or pull his leash...He is a very good dog, playful, sweet, mellow when needed, i mean he is perfect! He has never been attacked by other dogs except, maybe playing with my cousin's 5 year old bulldog, at her house... But even then, it is more of a aggressive play...After bring them together three times, we have decided not to go there anymore...So my question is - what's going on with my bully? Why is he freezing like that?
Oh and one last thing: last week he had a little cut on his back toe and seems to be limping a little on that leg.
Thank you for any useful information you can give me.

Answer
Alessandro,

Four months old is the time hip problems show up on bulldogs.  Is Dolce having a hard time walking around your home?

If so, he may not want to take his walks because of pain in his joints.

If there is not joint problem or pain, he may just be associating the walks with something negative.  Did you take walks when you visited your cousin?

If you cannot thing of any negative things that he associates the walks with, he may just being stubborn.  I've got some bullies that refuse to walk on a lease.

So you need to first determine if there is anything physical going on.

If not, you need to try to find if there is a negative thing he is relating the walks with.  Then find a way to associate a positive thing with his walks.

If he is just being stubborn, like above, try to associate something positive with the walks.

Hope that helps,
