Question
I have a 3.5 month old male bully, named Divot, but only had him for about a month.  In terms of temperament and looks, he is the perfect dog.  He comes from a 100% champion pedigree and I could't be happier.  He's been crate trained since being weaned from his mother and considering his young age, he's doing quite well.  He had one or two mishaps in his crate overnight during the first week I had him, and still has the occasionally accident, but overall I'm very satisfied with his progress.  My question is, when I'm away at work, is it best to leave him in the crate or let him loose in a confined area of the condo?  If let loose in the confined area, should I spread out newspaper or just let him outside when I come home?

Answer
Let me say that it exceptional that this puppy is doing so well with crate training at his young age.

Now, I would leave him in a safe area, with his crate opened, while you're at work.  It would be great if you could find someone to come in and interact with him if you're gone more than 3-4 hours at a time. Otherwise, secure an area, put his toys, his crate, and water down for him. Put paper on the floor to start.  Then, as he gets a bit older, make the papered area smaller.  This will help with house training.

Good luck.
