QuestionWe have a 13 week old, male, English Bulldog. We have been crate training him and he seems to be having an allergic reaction to the plastic tray in his crate. He has developed a red rash on his belly. On weekends it seems to dissipate because he is out of his crate for most of the day. This is what has lead me to think it is the tray. What can we do to help this? It doesn't seem to bother him, it's just red with some raised areas. Please let me know your thoughts.
AnswerThe rash is probably caused by a cleaning agent you use on the tray, not the plastic itself. Use a mild soap and water for now to clean with and dry it thoroughly before putting him in it.
You can clean his rash with 50/50 hydrogen peroxide and warm water, dry well and then just put some baby powder or corn starch on it. I think he'll be fine.
Often boy puppies develop what is called "puppy pyoderma" on their bellies and chins. Just keep the area clean and he'll likely outgrow it.
