Question
Hi! I'm a writer working on a book about dogs. The company's website is www.hundredsofheads.com.

Would you be able to answer a question for publication in the book? You'd be credited in the book with the tip, by your first and last name, first name, or anonymous if you prefer.

The question is: What's in your dog's first aid kit?

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

Let me fist preface this by saying that I am the director of a basic life support company in Ohio.  One of the cirriculums that we teach is pet first aid.  Therefore, my kit is based on the recommendations of the ASPCA....

The contents include:

-A leash
-Gauze pads of various sizes (2x2's and 4x4's, mostly)
-Gauze roll
-Medical tape
-Coban (a tacky wrap that is great for animals, also makes a muzzle in a pinch)
-Cotton swabs
-Triple antibiotic ointment
-Non-latex gloves
-syringe (without a needle, for irrigation or liquid medicine administration)
-Benadryl
-Pepto-Bismol
-Peroxide
-Tweezers
-Towels and a blanket
-And, of course, our animals' records

This kit is what I personally use.  Now, there are more things that is recommended to have, but not necessary based on individual needs.

For the list of recommended items, feel free to email me at info@hstassoc.net, and just mention that you asked about the pet first aid kit info...

Hope that this helps,
Stephen
