Question
Hello, my female english bulldog is almost one year old.  She is very affectionalte toward me, my family, and gets along great with our other dog (a 9 year old lab mix).  However, she usually growls, jumps, and even attempts to bite at guests when they come to our front door.  She also does this occasionally when walking past other dogs during walks (she will lunge and growl).  I scold her when she does this, but she gets in such an excited state that I don't think my correcting her is working effectively.  I've already begun searching for a qualified behaviorist in my area, but I was wondering if you could offer me any suggestions because I would really like to correct this as soon as possible.
Thanks.

Answer
This is a result of no socialization, or not enough. See if you can get her into an obedience class right away and let the trainer know what problems you're having also. All you can do know is work toward making her a social being. It will takes some effort on your part but it's not impossible.

Even if your obedience trainer doesn't have behavior mod experience, the dog will still benefit from the social atmosphere of a class. It's very important.
