Is she over weight or not?

I have a 2 year old British Bulldog bitch, she is not a small girl but comes from large stock. On a trip to the vets with another pet I asked about Bronwyns weight. The chart they referred to stated that she was twice her healthy weight. She weighs 70lb. I have checked her as the breeder stated and she has a waist and her ribs are palpable, perhaps a little over weight but not as the chart stated. So what I would like to know is she over weight and how do I tell?

Big girls rock! The chart your vet uses is based on AKC standards. It doesn't apply to dogs that are over sized at all. I had an 84 lb. female once and she wasn't a bit fat.

Your breeder is right. As long as she has a defined waist she's not over weight. Because she's a big girl, try to keep her on the trim side to avoid any health issues related to size such as heart attack.
