English Bulldog temperment issues

Question
My wife and I recently got an English Bulldog puppy.  He is seven weeks old.  His name is Roscoe.  For the most part he is a very good and mild mannered dog.  Although there are times when he will get in a very aggressive mood and growl and bark at us no matter what.  When doing this he will continuously snap at us and try to bite (not in a playful manner).  We have tried telling him in a stern voice "No" and have begun putting him in "time out" when he does not listen to us.  I believe he is a very trainable dog because he has quickly picked up on the potty training very well.  What do you suggest we do when he gets in these aggressive moods and will not listen to anything we say?  How do we stop the biting and growling?  Thank you for your help.

Answer
Well I can tell you what to do, but you'll think I'm a bit nuts.

If he should bite you, bite him back. Put his paw in your mouth and bite until he yells.  Then growl at him.  A BIG DOG GROWL.  This is unacceptable behavior.  When he begins to growl, take him by the nape of the neck and shake him VIGOROUSLY, with a very loud "NO"!  This is how his mother would discipline him if he were still in the pack.  Never give a command you can't enforce.  He needs to learn his place in YOUR pack, and you always have to be the alpha male in the house.

It is a bit unusual for a puppy this age to be exhibiting aggressive behavior, but not totally out of the rhealm of reality.
