Question
QUESTION: I have recently lost my best friend "Zach"my 2 year old Bulldog.I am stuck with no answers and after reading online im wondering if the vets diagnosis was wrong.
What happened was ..my wife goes to work at 8 am and she gave him a treat before she left ,i get home bout 10 past 8 am this particular day we crossed paths in driveway ..i went inside  as she was leaving, not even 10 minutes later i hear my dog wheezing ,gasping for air.i went to my bed and saw him laying in pool of vomit, urine and bowel movements.i  thought he was choking cause i saw something blue hangin out his mouth so i grabbed it ,it was his tongue, so i rushed him to vet bout 5 minutes away and by the time i got there his heart stopped and he was gone .so now im crushed. No answers no idea what happened .Vet did a kinda autopsy ...kinda quick one .
they found absolutely nothing in his esophogus so he didnt choke to death.supposedly.she said maybe heart ailment...but couldnt tell.this dog was healthy as ox 5 minutes before this episode. She ruled out seizures  saying ..the dog would have to have seizure for about 1 hour or longer to die.my sons have a dog who has seizures and they said their dog does same thing Zach did .i read online that allergies could have diverse affect of types of seizures ..this dog had nasty skin rash from allergies and we gave him the meds vet prescribed  for allergies ..and the allergies could have played a part in heart ailment?... so my question is ...WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED?COULD THIS HAVE BEEN A SEIZURE AND VET WAS WRONG <EVEN A 10-20 min SEIZURE COULDA BEEN THE CULPRIT?
ANSWER: It definitely sounds like a seizure to me. The treats you were giving the dog, did they contain peanut butter or peanut oil or red dye?

The vet would have been able to tell if he had a heart attack, I hope. A stroke would have just caused him to drop dead, not vomit etc.  Why type of meds was he on for allergies?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: yes the treats had red dye #40 and red dye #3  no peanut stuff at all ..it was ol roy  special T`s  they have always gotten these treats ..btw ..we have 2 bulls the other 1 had no illnesses ...but is about 6 months younger from same father but different mom...
the meds he was on ..was prednisone but we stopped that once symptoms went away because he would urinate in coners of house and get all sad and cower cause he peed in house ,something he never did so you could tell he was upset for doing it.and cepholexin i think thats how you spell it lol and we gave him that up until his rash was completely gone and we had hopefully diagnosed the allergy to carpet deodorizer by stop using it and letting him go without meds and see if the rash starts coming back which it didnt so we were satisfied that was cause of allergy..that process is the way vet told us to go about trying to diagnose allergy ..wasnt someting we just did ... but could a seizure kill him that fast?

Answer
For future reference, the ol' Roy products are garbage. They are full of red dye.

Yes, a seizure could kill him right away depending upon what caused it. Chances are it may have been a brain anurysm(sp).
It's impossible to know without a complete, in depth necropsy.
