Bulldog eating drywall

Question
Thanks, Marjorie!

I had a feeling you were going to say that. I work 9-5 so Lucy is alone during that time. Once I get home my husband and I walk her and play with her, etc. Do you think crating her all day is a good idea? One of our bathrooms is her home. It's small but she plays in there usually. The trouble with dry wall has been in another bedroom where we've been leaving her lately because there is more room. Does she not need more room when she's home alone? BTW I just hired a trainer that is coming to our house to help with Lucy. She's only been over a couple of times, but we've got her coming every day for the next few weeks. She appears to be great. I can give you her info if you want to have in your files for future recommendations in the Southern California area.

Anyway, can you advise me on whether I should crate Lucy while were at work...seems cruel to me, but I'm not the expert.
Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for your prior advice regarding my dear EBD Lucy!
I have another dilemma, she's been munching on our walls lately. She just chews on the flat wall (which is sooo weird)but when we discover the holes there is really no residue. She is obviously eating the drywall. A friend told me she might be lacking calcium. Would you kindly give me your opinion and any possible recommendations for a solution.

Thanks much~

You need to crate this dog when you are unable to monitor her behavior at all times until this kind of stuff stops. There are chemicals in drywall which I feel quite sure aren't advantageous for a dog to be eating. If you're feeding her adequate amounts of a quality food, there's no reason to believe she may have any type of defiency at all. This sounds more like plain ol' boredom to me.

Answer
9-5 is a very long day for any puppy/dog to be crated. You mentioned a trainer coming in. If she's going to come in midday, this will solve the problem. 4 hours crated isn't a huge deal as long as someone is coming in to interact with the puppy. Any longer than that just adds to the problems you're already experiencing, like separation anxiety.

Have you considered daycare for your puppy? That might be the simple answer.
