Spaying and Demeanor Change

Question
Bella, my english bulldog, is scheduled to be spayed on November 10 when she will be five and a half months old. She's been a great puppy and hasn't exhibited any behavioral issues. I've been bringing her to obedience school and she is very distracted by other dogs, but I've considered this to be normal puppy behavior. This is my first female dog so I'm not quite sure what to expect from altering her. I know that altered males express less aggression and a reduced desire to spray, and I have noticed in the past that my male dogs became calmer after being neutered. Other than the fact that she won't have heat cycles, what will be the main effects of having her spayed? I'm not planning on breeding her and I will have her spayed regardless, I'm just curious about the effects. I know there are mixed opinions about this, but what has been your experience with females after they have been altered? Thanks so much for your help.

Answer
Spaying your dog is the best thing you can do to make her a well adjusted, sociable companion. She will not exhibit territorial behavior especially since you're taking her to obedience and getting her out and about with plenty of other dogs.

I always recommend spaying as soon as possible.
