Question
Hi,

My vet recommended that i feed large breed puppy food to my 5
mo old/45 pound male bully. I noticed on your previous answers
that you said not to give the large breed. his sire is 60 lbs, so he
is expected to be over the 50 lbs threshold that iams says to
start using large breed.

which is best for him? is there any objective evidence out there?

thanks,
mike

Answer
You want to keep his weight down as much as possible while he's still growing. More weight means more stress on joints and organs. I would avoid large breed foods completely. What did dog owners do before they came up with "large breed formula"?  Everyone survived.

You should be able to see a "waist" on him at all times. If he's roly poly, that's not a good thing. If you're feeding IAMS now, stick with the medium sized breed puppy food.
