Question
QUESTION: My son was just given a female English Bulldog a couple of weeks ago. We have notice blood spotting on the floor and assume she is now in heat, she stands in front of our older male dog and looks back at him expectantly.  He could care less. But the problem is we don't know how long this will last.  Can you tell us what is usual to expect?  How often does she go in heat?  The plan is to have her fixed soon. (She is AKC and has been breeding, which we don't plan to do.)  What is a good reference book for Bulldog care?
Thank you very much for your assistance.
Bobbie

ANSWER: Hi Bobbie - Well, yes the bleeding will last for 21- 25 days or less. Glad you will give her a break and get her spayed.  Do it now when she is still young.  I hate to see them get spayed at an older age because it is more dangerous.  ( they can get blood clots)

Just do a search on English bulldog books... I am sure you will find many and they will have customer reviews to read.

QUESTION: You asked what we are feeding her?  We are feeding her Royal Canin MEDIUM Canine Health Nutrition Bulldog 24.  Is this adequate?  It is expensive.  Also she likes to chew...we have been giving our other dogs (rottweiler/lab mix and lab/springer spaniel mix) rawhide chew bones for treats.

Answer
Hi - I would rather see you give her a bullie stick or even a good Nylabone -

As far as the food, it is ok, there are much better for your money.

Ask him if he wants to change her to another one?  I can help with some referrals.
