Cork screw tail bulldog; cleaning cork screw tail infection;

Hi there, our bulldog Chico, who is 7 years old was just diagnosed with cork screw tail yesterday, he is in a lot of pain and we don't want to put him through the surgery at this stage in his life.  He also has major allergies and ear/eye infections all the time.  He has a cocktail of problems and now with the corkscrew issue, we don't know what to do.  The vet gave us cream for the tail, eye drops for his eyes, ear drops and antibiotics.  He is not very cooperative when we administer these to him.  We want to do what is best for him even if it means putting him down.  Our other dog, who is a  9 year old mastiff will miss him dearly, they've been partners in crime for 7 years.  Any suggestions, we need to make a decision fast, we hate to see him in pain everyday.  Thank you.

Hi Louis and Linda,  We can fix this boy up between your VET's help and me, too.
1.  Yes - continue the antibitics your vet gave you...
2.  Start cleaning the area daily -

Clean the tail area and facial folds  with baby wipes but add a drop of water and a drop of hydrogen peroxide to the wipes - go into the folds with this 1-2 x per day.  Later on, you will be able to just do water on the wipes.
Or, you can use a drop or two of  "Witch Hazel" on the baby wipes.

Make sure you don't soak the wipe with too much water - squeeze out any excess water.


You can also add some corn starch into the folds - to keep them dry.  
Into the tail wrinkle or folds....
JUST place some corn starch on a "q-tip" and pat into a deep fold...
KEEPs them dry.
I know he will get more Calm as the pain goes away.  You will be able to work on him but you will have to work in a TEAM for now...

Don't put this boy down... With some good supplements and proper cleaning he will be better.
