Sleeping through the night

Question
Hi! I just got my bulldog, Dudley, a few days ago from a private breeder. He is the best dog ever. I am just not sure what I should do when he barks at night. I live in an apartment and the only place I can keep him is in my bathroom. I have a baby gate up and piddle pads (which he has been using for 2 days and already uses them 90% of the time). During the day when he barks if I have to get something done I just ignore him. I also bought a baby playpin to put him in if I am in the other room. He doesn't like it too much though and seems to bark. The only time the barking is really bad is at night. During the day he will give up after 15-20 m but at night it seems to go on forever and he is so close to my bed that it seems so loud. I don't know if I should let him bark or take him out. I know its not becuase he needs to go to the bathroom because he has the pads. I think he gets lonely. The last two nights I have been picking him up and letting him sleep on the couch with me but I don't want this to be a habit (thus why I am writing to you now). He has a bed and water and plenty of toys. Is there someething I can do? I know he's young (9 weeks) but it would be nice to get some sleep.

Answer
Oh this is just a tiny baby thing. Take him out of your room at night so he can't see or smell you. He'll eventually give up.  If you give in now, you'll suffer forever.

You can also take his water away around 6-7 p.m. This will help with training but don't expect any success in this department for months. Bulldogs are notoriously hard to train but be patient and consistent and he'll come around.

Stick to your guns and let him cry it out!  Good luck.
