QuestionMy husband and I just bought an all white English bulldog and think that she might be deaf. We cant tell if she can hear us or is just ignoring us. At time it seems like she can hear if we shake her dog bowl with food in it, but if we call her or whistle or even clap our hands we get no response. I know bullies can be stubborn and am just wondering if this could be the case or if we should take her to the Vet to see if she truly is deaf.
AnswerHello Courtney, If she is deaf you can communicate with loud claps or stomps - the vibrations will get her attention... They feel all the smallest vibrations.
There is a number of good books in regards to working and living with a deaf dog.
Make sure when you are making the LOUD TEST noise you don't do a vibration...
Stand very still and shake the dog food dish.
If you want, I can suggest a good food and vitamins for your new pup.
- call the vet and make an appointment / get this little one checked out.
BEST wishes
