Question
Hello. My English bulldog gave birth 4 days ago. She has been panting heavily since bringing her home from the vet.  Is she stressed? Is there something I can do to help calm her? Also, The vet told me to feed her puppy food while she is nursing, However, she is experiencing very loose stools. I have been feeding her canned puppy food . I appreciate your time and help.

Answer
Get rid of the puppy food right away and give her what she's used to. If you want to add a little canned food to it that's fine, but not just canned food.

Check her breasts to make sure they aren't hot or hard. This could be mastitis coming on which would cause her to be very uncomfortable and to pant. Take her temp as well. It shouldn't be over 102. If it is, get her to the vet. She could have an infection brewing.

She should be in a quiet area without kids popping in or you hovering over her every second too. Just let her settle in with the puppies and relax. Check on her every 15-30 minutes or so but don't handle the puppies any more than necessary.

If the vet gave her antibiotics after surgery, this too may be causing the diarrhea.
