Bringing another male Bully into the family?

19 16:26:11

Question
I called a shelter to inquire about a 4 year old male bulldog and when I mentioned that we have a 2 year old male bulldog they said it wouldn't work. I was told that male bulldogs don't generally get along well unless they were raised together and to consider a female instead.  Is this true?  We've raised our bully since he was 8 weeks old, we want to make sure our boy is as happy with the new dog as we are, and of course we want our new family member to be happy too!

Answer
Generally speaking, Bulldogs get along fine with other dogs as long as they are well socialized as youngsters, neutered and live with another dog.  If your dog has been an "only child" and you want to bring in another dog, I would consider a female.  However, getting a female, especially an older one, is not guarantee that there will be harmony in the house.  If you go through a shelter or rescue, there may be no history on the dog and you would have no way of knowing how the dog had been raised.  If you work with a Bulldog Rescue organization they will take this all into consideration when placing a dog with you.
