QuestionI've got a very nice quality male Bulldog weighing around 55 lbs. and very short sturdy legged. People are interested in breeding with him. I know most breeders AI their bulldogs, but I would like to know why they don't generally breed naturally and if that is a bad idea to do so? Thank you for your help. Diane
AnswerIt's a bad idea..The dog can easily exhaust itself or overheat and die. Bulldogs aren't built to breed naturally unless they are unusually long legged. It's usually the poorer quality dogs who accomplish this which is of no benefit to the breed.
AIs are simple to do but if your dog hasn't been exposed to it since he was little, it may be quite a chore the first time or two. You will need someone with knowledge and experience to help you if you decide to go through with using him at stud.
