Question
hello, I purchased an english bulldog puppy about four weeks ago.  I've done quite a bit of research on the breed.  I am realizing that our pup, Shakespeare, is quite smart but also quite stubborn.  I just want to know what expectations I should have for him at the age of 11-12 weeks?  At times it seems as if he is housebroken, but just when we get hopeful, he urinates on the carpet.  Our breeder told us not to expect much from him (in terms of obedience and potty training) until he is 16 weeks.  The vet seems to think he should be getting it by now.  We are not sure what to make of the difference of opinions and would appreciate any help, thanks for your time.

Answer
Ask your vet how many Bulldog puppies he's trained.

You have very high expectations for him at this age. Generally I tell people not to see much success with house training before 16 weeks and possibly longer. Puppies are individuals and train at different rates depending upon a lot of variables.  It would be in your best interest to take this puppy to obedience classes as well.  Stubborn can turn into something entirely different if left to it's own devices.

I have some great training info if you'd like to email me directly I would be happy to share it with you.
